เมล่อนญี่ปุ่นจะหวานหอมที่สุดเมื่อสุกพอดี สังเกตได้ง่ายๆ จาก 3 จุดA Japanese melon is at its sweetest when just ripe. Check three things.

• ขั้วรูปตัว T เริ่มแห้งหรือเหี่ยวเล็กน้อยThe T-shaped stem starts to dry or wilt slightly.
• กดเบาๆ ที่ก้นผล (ฝั่งตรงข้ามขั้ว) จะนุ่มยุบเล็กน้อยThe blossom end, opposite the stem, gives slightly under gentle pressure.
• มีกลิ่นหอมหวานชัดเจนเมื่อดมใกล้ๆIt gives off a clear, sweet aroma up close.

• ถ้ายังไม่สุก วางไว้ที่อุณหภูมิห้อง ในที่ร่มและอากาศถ่ายเทIf not yet ripe, keep it at room temperature in a shaded, airy spot.
• เมื่อสุกแล้ว แช่ตู้เย็นประมาณ 2–3 ชั่วโมงก่อนผ่า จะได้รสหวานสดชื่นOnce ripe, chill it for about 2–3 hours before cutting.
• เมล่อนที่ผ่าแล้ว ห่อหรือใส่กล่องปิดสนิท เก็บในตู้เย็น และรับประทานภายใน 1–2 วันWrap cut melon, refrigerate it, and eat within 1–2 days.
